I bought it in late Oct 2004 from an ebay listing. The car was local, low mileage, clean, mostly original, and inexpensive (to buy, anyway).

So far, the only thing I have done is to take the top off and enjoy driving it. It needs lots of things done to it, including new or recovered front seats, fixing electrical gremlins (Tach needle jumping, lights dimming at idle and high RPMs), a tune up to get it running better at low to mid range RPMs, and a new muffler to quiet it down a bit.

Paint is original and still has its shine. Wheels look good, though the paint is coming off in places.

I intend it to be a daily driver, so I really only intend to maintain it.

****5/27/05 Update -- Took it in February to Don Jackson Enterprises to get some work done. The "electrical gremlin" turned out to be a faulty alternator. Upgraded to a later Carerra alternator...problem solved. The noisy exhaust turned out to be a bad catalytic converter. At present, I have a used replacement, but may go to a straight-thru pipe, at least after I pass smog later this year. :-)

However, at the moment I have a NEW problem...the darn thing won't idle. Something broke, but I don't know what, yet. So, for now, I'm driving a friend's 1985 Corvette. A VERY different car. But, at least the AC works, which is nice considering the temperature hovers in the 100s-110s now. Even still, I miss my Porsche (it's been at DJE for several weeks now while they sort out the problem).

Planned work yet to be done: Recover front seats. Replace dash. Rebuild Targa top. Reset rear suspension and lower car to european ride height. I might upgrade the sound system, and fix the power antenna. New clutch, and maybe new synchros. Replace bushings in the shift linkage, and possibly upgrade the shifter to a short throw unit. Also there is a company that makes a shifter kit that sets the shifter to default to the 3-4 gear plane, to reduce the opportunity for missed shifts or accidentally shifting into 1st or 2nd at a time when it would be disasterous.

Possibly a new exhaust/header system (that one is pricey, though). Oh, and repair the odometer and recalibrate the speedometer to read to 160 MPH, since currently it only reads to 85MPH (a joke on this car). I also want to change one rear seat belt to the airplane type manually adjustable, so that I can tie down a car seat for my 3 year old, so that the whole family can ride in it. I also might upgreade the AC system, and add a front oil cooler, since it gets so darn hot out here.

*****11/15/08 Update -- Well, after 4 years of being my daily driver, and being largely neglected, in July I purchased a MINI to be the new daily driver.  I still have this car.  I did get the speedo redone, but most of the other changes have been on hold.  In 2006, the wire to the front trunk light wore a hole in the sheathing and arced to the body.  The fuse didn't blow, the wire superheated and it melted pretty much all the wiring under the dash.  Had to have the hold wiring loom replaced!  OUCH!.  Took a month to do.  Since then, I've pretty much done nothing to the car but drive it.  It needs a lot of love right now.  But, I don't have the $$$ at the moment and I've got other projects in the mix.
